Overkill Berlin
Hello world, it's James phoning home from Berlin again. Apparently this is the official European hot spot for street art and graffiti. I say official because the New York Times ran an article about the scene here a few days ago. If you found your way to this website, chances are the article will seem a little square, but they posted a cool video to go along with it, and interviewed Thomas, one of the co-owners of Overkill.
The times I've visited, I've been psyched on the store's whole scenario-- more dope paints and inks than you can fathom, priced reasonably. In a city where hardware stores charge 7-10 Euros for a can of spray paint, Overkill sells Montana and Molotow for 3 and 4. Then again, stores in Berlin don't keep their paint locked up, so chances are a lot of the paint you see up on walls didn't get paid for at all...
The staff is helpful and they also have a serious selection of DVD's and magazines, one of the best I've seen anywhere. They've also got all types of stupid fresh exclusive clothes and sneakers, if you're into that.
They also run a sick blog that gets updated daily with vintage hip hop videos, an online store, and"Overkill Classic" as Michael called it. So yeah, these guys deserve pretty much any shine they have coming their way.
James out.
