This just in from Simon Ampel:
This is appalling, congress is attempting to pass this "Orphan Works act", that would make it so anybody who wants to use an image that you created would only have to attempt to find out who created it. (I.E. erase your signature in photoshop, and say they couldn't find out who the artist is) and then it's their's to use however they like. If you create images, you would have to register each and every one with one of several new registration companies to be protected. Go to the site below, and use it to send one of their prewritten letters to your congress peoples (takes 1.25 minutes). Then forward this to everyone it'd affect. This is for real, I've looked into it, If it goes through I'll take every piece of artwork that I've got on the web down. You can read the bill, and more about it here -> (http://www.sellyourtvconceptnow.com/orphan.html)
Thanks
FROM THE ILLUSTRATORS' PARTNERSHIP
Take Action: Don't Let Congress Orphan Our Work
We've set up an online site for visual artists to e-mail their Senators and Representatives with one click.
This site is open to professional artists, photographers and any member of the image-making public.
We've provided sample letters from individuals representing different sectors of the visual arts.
If you're opposed to the Orphan Works act, this site is yours to use.
For international artists and our colleagues overseas, we've provided a special link, with a sample letter and instructions as to whom to write.
2 minutes is all it takes to write Congress and protect your copyright:
