I recently went on a much needed trip to my homeland of Vienna, Austria, and got to catch up with an old school buddy of mine, 401rush aka Nick Platzer. As the owner-founder and sole employee of the Inoperable Gallery (named after the broken mini elevator that is conveniently located in the middle of the two floor space) he's given the street art scene a loving booster shot in the typically snooty arena that is Viennese gallery culture (he will forever only serve peanut butter puffs and beer at his openings) and has made it a must see for any respectable artist traveling anywhere near Vienna. He's also managed to "inspire" a bevy of nearby galleries - all of them blatantly fighting for his artists and knocking off his ideas. Not only does Nick show huge variety of amazing artists but he prices the work so that all us street lovers can actually afford it. And if you're still too cheap to pay 20 euro for a hand printed sick ass poster then you can also check out the hallway of curiosity where there are all sorts of trinkets, stickers, zines, stuffed animals, bags, and t-shirts on sale for WAY too cheap.

Since opening the gallery in November of '05, Nick has personally curated 17 shows, the 18th opens on the 31st of this month and is Inoperable's 2nd birthday party!! For this special event he's invited artists from all over the globe to participate, the only catch is that every piece has to have been done by two people - that is two artists on each and every piece. nice.
